TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. (December 9, 2004) - After skiers and snowboarders helped Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa raise nearly $700 last year to support local avalanche forecasting efforts, the Lodge, located at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, will host its second-annual Aprs-Ski Avalanche Party on Saturday, Dec. 18, again benefiting the Bridger-Teton National Forest Avalanche Center.
The party will feature $2 draft beers donated by Jackson Hole Distributing and Snake River Brewery, appetizers, live music by Pete and Anne Sibley, and a raffle. Among the items up for grabs: a pair of Rossignol Bandit B3 skis, lodging, dining and spa treatments at Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa, lift tickets at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, outdoor apparel from Cloudveil and Mountain Hardwear, sleeping bags from Mountain Hardwear and Marmot, winter gear from The North Face, and sunglasses from Ryders Eyewear, among a number of other prizes.
"In trying to find avenues to say thanks to the local community for their ongoing support, we felt the avalanche center's work was a logical choice, given Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa's direct connection to skiing and snowboarding," said Jeff Ward, the Lodge's general manager. "And apparently locals agreed, since more than 100 people showed up last year to help us benefit the avalanche center."
Entry to this year's aprs-ski event, which will take place downstairs in the Lodge's Cascade bar from 2-6 p.m., costs $5, all of which will go to the avalanche center. Entry includes one raffle ticket, one draft beer or soda and access to appetizers. Additional draft beers cost $2 each, and additional raffle tickets cost $1 each. All proceeds from the raffle, auction and beer sales will benefit the nonprofit Avalanche Center Support Organization, a private group that supplements the budget of the local avalanche forecast center.
Representatives from the Bridger-Teton National Forest Avalanche Center will be on hand to discuss their work. Between web site hits and phone calls, the resources provided by the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center are accessed more than a quarter million times each winter.
The Cascade Bar, which features a relaxed setting highlighted by locally shot ski photography, is easily found by hanging a hard skier's right after crossing the bridge over the road to the Jackson Hole Kid's Ranch (it's at the edge of the upper parking lot, next door to Pepi Steigler Sports).
