TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. (July 19, 2005) - Just like ski and board edges need sharpening periodically, a skier or snowboarder's body needs tuning for optimum performance from time to time, particularly for folks who do most of their skiing or riding condensed into a week or two of vacation each ski season.

For those guests, the spa therapists at Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa – themselves skiers and riders who know from personal experience what muscle groups need work after a day on the slopes – devised several new treatments that will be available at the Lodge starting in December 2005. The treatments will be available at the new Mountain Lodge Spa, which opened in winter 2005.

Skier's/Rider's Tune-Up (by Skiers and Riders)

Developed by Jackson Hole-based massage therapists who are serious about their skiing and riding on the 4,139 vertical feet of terrain out of Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa’ s front door, the Skiers'/Riders' Tune-Up Massage is designed to relax and revive the specific muscle groups that get sore and stiff from the repetitive motions of skiing and snowboarding. Jackson Hole-grown Arnica salve is a component of this treatment because Arnica helps relieve muscle soreness and ensure recovery from fatigue for the next day of descents. Depending on whether the guest is a skier or a snowboarder, therapists tailor the treatment to specific muscle groups with the guidance of collective information developed from the insight that can come only from being skiers or snowboarders themselves. For skiers, therapists focus on the lower back and quads, two areas that often are targeted by the skiing motion, as well as the hamstrings, gluts and feet, and they target specific areas within those realms based on an individual skier's needs. For snowboarders, therapists focus on the neck, as snowboarders are always looking to one side or the other, the calves, which get strained from edging, as well as on the hamstrings, quads and gluts. Once again, they target specific areas within those realms based on an individual snowboarder's needs. One hour treatment: $120.

Ski and Snowboard Foot Reflexology Recovery

Stuffing feet into tight-fitting ski and snowboard boots means that a skier or rider's foot muscles are often sore and fatigued at the end of the day. Focusing both on relieving these sore foot muscle groups, but also on the larger well-being of the body, the Ski and Snowboard Foot Reflexology

Recovery treatment is an incredible treatment after a full day of standing in ski or snowboard boots. Based on an eastern therapy that dates back to the ancient Egyptians, Foot Reflexology is a technique where therapists work on points on the feet that are associated with organs and other areas within the body. The treatment begins with a foot soak and aromatherapy foot salt scrub to prepare feet for the Reflexology session. One hour treatment: $120.
