TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. (Feb. 5, 2007) With more than 3.7 million acres of wild country outside the front door, where does one start? This summer at Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa, guests can easily digest all the options for adventure in Jackson Hole and nearby Grand Teton National Park thanks to the new Adventure Outpost Library, a collection of the best guidebooks and maps covering the area’s national parks and national forests.
The new guidebook and map collection is available for guests through the Adventure Outpost desk, the Lodge’s outdoor-oriented concierge service, located near the front desk. In 2006, the Lodge re-launched its concierge desk as the Adventure Outpost to reflect its focus on outdoor activities and the fact that it is staffed by avid outdoorspeople. With the Adventure Outpost Library, guests can peruse outdoor guidebooks that point them in the right direction in the comfort of the Lodge's western furniture-filled lobby. They can even check out a guidebook and map or two to take along on a day hike or another outing. Adventure Outpost staff also use the library to show guests specifics on where they can hike, bike, spot wildlife and pursue other outdoor activities. Books and maps available in the Adventure Outpost Library include:
- Jackson Hole Day Hikes
- Day Hiking in Grand Teton National Park
- Beyond the Tetons: Hikes in the Jackson area
- Earthwalk Press Grand Teton National Park trail map
- Jackson Hole Trail Map
- Rocky Mountain Trees and Wildflowers Naturalist Guide
- Rocky Mountain Wildlife Naturalist Guide
- Wyoming Birds Naturalist Guide
- A Guide to Mountain Biking in Jackson Hole
- A Climber's Guide to the Teton Range
- National Geographic Yellowstone National Park Trails map
"In a place like Jackson Hole where there are so many activities to do, this program will help guests make the most of their time in one of the country’s outdoor meccas," said Tom Walker, Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa's director of sales and marketing.
Walker added that the program is a logical extension of the Lodge's Gear Closet program, which grew last summer to offer guests complementary use of Kelty kid-carrier backpacks and jogger-strollers. The Gear Closet offers complimentary loaner outdoor gear for guests who may not own the proper gear for an outdoor-oriented trip to a place like Jackson Hole or who had their luggage lost on their flight into Jackson Hole. Along with the kid carriers, the Gear Closet program offers waterproof rain shells, day packs, binoculars and trekking poles, as well as ski-specific equipment for winter.
