TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. (Feb. 5, 2007) For those looking for a true summer adventure in 2007, Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa’s location just a few miles from the trailhead for one of the most sought-after summits in North America – and its proximity to one of America’s most-respected mountaineering schools – allow it to offer guests a shot at the top of Wyoming’s 13,770-foot Grand Teton with its Scale the Grand package.
The package juxtaposes comfortable accommodations – as well as a lengthy visit to Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa’s new spa following the summit bid to facilitate recuperation – with rugged adventure through North America’s venerable Exum Mountain Guides and School of Mountaineering. It was designed for either two friends or a couple who are ready to tackle an adventurous outdoor experience together. No previous climbing experience is necessary – Exum trains guests with all the skills they will need – though people who book the package should be in good shape on arrival.
Guests who book the Scale the Grand package will check in for three nights at Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa, located less than a mile from the south entrance of Grand Teton National Park, surrounded by the rugged Teton Range. Based from comfortable digs in a Lodge Room or Alpine Studio Suite, they’ll spend the first two days completing Exum’s basic and intermediate climbing school, learning all the mountaineering skills they’ll need for a guided attempt on the Grand.
On the third day, they’ll hike five miles with their mountain guide to Exum’s high camp at 11,600 feet on the Lower Saddle of the Grand Teton, where they’ll enjoy sunset, dinner and a night at Exum’s comfortable tent camp (where most of the gear they need to spend the night and for the climb is kept). Rising early the next morning, it’s time for the summit bid via the spectacular Exum Ridge, a dramatically exposed but relatively moderate rock ridge on the south side of the mountain.
After returning to the valley following their summit attempt, guests will return for two more nights at Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa. The day after the climb is dedicated to an 80-minute sports recovery massage for each climber in the Mountain Lodge Spa, followed by a 30-minute arnica wrap, which will benefit sore muscles, as well as plenty of time for checking out Jackson Hole or whatever other leisurely activities guests desire.
Scale the Grand package rates start at $1,835 per person (based on double occupancy), not including taxes and resort fee, and vary according to dates of stay (when booking, please let the agent know whether the group is a couple or two friends).
