If you’re a beer drinker and at least 21 years old, nothing tastes better after an adventure through Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, a scenic hike, a powder day, dirty single-track ride, or an afternoon throwing flies on the Snake River than a cold one! Craft brews and regional brewers are all the rave right now in beer drinking circles, and there are a handful of breweries in Jackson Hole and in the nearby towns that you need to know about. Here’s a guide to our favorites…
Snake River Brewing Co. (on-tap at Spur): For more than two decades Snake River Brewing Co. has been crafting award-winning beers in the heart of Jackson Hole. “Jackson Hole is a unique environment with world-class outdoor activities,” SRB writes on their website. “It is only fitting that we craft world-class ‘beers to match the scenery.’” Snake River offers tours of the brewery if you’re interested in learning about the process, and their Brew Pub serves as Jackson’s living room for those looking to kickback and enjoy the beers. SRB has been amassing accolades that belie it being a small brewery in a small mountain town. Two-time “Brewery of the Year” and Chris Erickson being named “Brewmaster of the Year” are just two examples. SRB is the most award-winning brewery in the country of their size! Our favorite: SRB Lager, available at Spur!
Q Roadhouse Brewery (on-tap at Spur): Q Roadhouse is a relatively new brewery in Jackson, having recently celebrated their one-year anniversary. Since opening, the Roadhouse has had at least 8 of their own beers on tap. While they do not distribute beers out of the state, their beers are on tap throughout the valley, and a must-try when visiting Jackson Hole! The Roadhouse has also won numerous awards, and locals love their suds. Q is about 10 minutes from the Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa and they boast a back lawn that is the perfect place to enjoy a beer. Our favorite: Rhombus IPA, available at Spur!
Thai Me Up Brewery (located in downtown Jackson): Founded by a ski bum in 2000, Thai Me Up has been a Jackson institution from the beginning. They just recently jumped into the handcrafted beer arena and immediately made a spalsh, winning a Gold Medal at the 2014 World Beer Cup for their Imperial IPA 2×4. There are 20 beers on tap, too!
Grand Teton Brewing Company (in nearby Victor, ID and on-tap at Spur): Grand Teton has been brewing “handcrafted beers at the base of the Tetons since 1988″ and are the self-described “original brewery of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.” Swing by for a tasting, six pack, or tour. Our favorite: 208 Sessions, available at Spur!
Wildlife Brewing (in nearby Victor, ID): Since 2003, Wildlife has been brewing beer in their on-site barrels and pouring 8 microbrews from the tap. Their pizza is awesome and the atmosphere is lively. This is a great spot for a low-key family dinner.
