Driving in Jackson Hole

Wildlife is very active around the roads throughout the valley and in the national parks, please be alert for our furry fauna friends – particularly on the Moose-Wilson Road – and “Give Wildlife a Brake!”

The valley is flat, so it is not necessary to rent a 4WD vehicle for your summer stay in Jackson Hole.

Moose-Wilson Road Closure

During 2022, the southern half of the Moose-Wilson Corridor, the area between the Granite Entrance Station and the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve, will only be open to public access on weekends, 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday, from Memorial Day (May 30) to Labor Day (Sept 5), and closed entirely in the spring and fall. Listed below are specific dates:

  • April – May 29: CLOSED
  • May 30 – September: OPEN on weekends (7 pm Friday-7 am Monday)
  • September 6 – December: CLOSED

When the road is closed, it is closed to all use including hiking, cycling, and running. However, there are several trails that will remain open to hikers guided by modified signs and kiosks. Rack cards and park guides will be available along with a liaison Friday – Monday that will have a regular presence in Teton Village wearing an NPS uniform.

Travel to the town of Jackson from Teton Village will not be impacted.
